Post Study Work Visa: Level 7 Graduate Diplomas Eligible from 16 November 2026
Immigration New Zealand (INZ) has confirmed that, from Monday 16 November 2026, more international graduates will be able to apply for a Post Study Work Visa (PSWV). Graduates who complete a Level 7 graduate diploma in New Zealand will be able to qualify, as long as they already hold a bachelor's degree.
Who will be eligible
To apply for a Post Study Work Visa based on a graduate diploma, you will need to:
have completed a graduate diploma at NZQCF Level 7
have studied full-time in New Zealand for the full duration of the qualification
have been enrolled in that qualification for the full duration (cross-crediting or recognition of prior learning is not eligible)
hold a bachelor's degree, completed in New Zealand or overseas
What the visa offers
Open work conditions for eligible graduate diploma holders who also hold a bachelor's degree
A visa of up to a maximum of 1 year
The ability to support partners and dependent children for visitor, work or dependent child student visas
What this means for students
If you are planning a graduate diploma in New Zealand, check that you will study full-time in New Zealand for the whole programme and will not rely on cross-credits or recognition of prior learning. These details will decide whether your qualification leads to a Post Study Work Visa.
